Become a Volunteer

Kirkstall Valley Farm is a community farm. We have a team of part time growers based at the farm – Ben, Emma, and Rhian – and part time admin worker, Jen. We also work closely with other staff from across KVDT.

We rely heavily on volunteers to support us with the upkeep – from building infrastructure, working the land, planting and harvesting, organise and staffing community events, to looking after the wildlife – there are plenty of opportunities to get involved throughout the year!

Volunteers give as much or as little time as they wish – any support is much appreciated and can be both home-based or on-site. In return, we offer you a friendly community to be a part of, the opportunity to meet new people and learn new skills, a sense of well-being through working in the outdoors and with the earth, as well as benefitting the local community and environment.

If you are interested in volunteering, please find out more and complete our Volunteer Sign Up Form here.

Regular volunteer hours below (Winter/spring 2024):

  • Monday: 1.30 – 3.30pm
  • Wednesday: 1.30 – 3.30pm
  • Thursday (Harvest Day): 10am – 1pm, 2pm-4pm, 6pm-8pm
  • Saturday: 10am – 12pm

We provide the tools and suggest you bring gardening gloves and wear sturdy footwear. We usually have a tea and biscuit break at the end of the session.

Specific volunteering opportunities will also be announced on the ‘News‘ section of our website as well as on our Facebook page.

Join our CSA Support Group

Kirkstall Valley Farm is part of the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Network – CSA is a partnership between the farm and the community. If you are involved in the farm in any way – be that a volunteer, a farm member or a Harvest Share Member, perhaps you would like to be involved more ‘behind the scenes’?

We would like to offer a programme of events for all farm members, harvest share members and volunteers, and organise fundraising events to raise money for developing the farm (for example: to allow us to modify the farm tractor, making it more suitable for our use, or to purchase extra polytunnels) but we need volunteers to support by offering time and skills.

At this initial stage, we are looking for people who are willing to attend regular meetings and are happy to help with occasional events say once every couple of months.
If you are interested in helping out in this way, and being part of a ‘CSA Support Group’  please let Jen know by email ([email protected]).

Volunteer at Local events and Stalls

If you are not into meetings but would like to help occasionally, we often hold stalls at various local events to promote the farm, the Harvest Share Veg Boxes, and Farm Membership. No experience or previous knowledge of the farm is required, we will have all the information (and veg!) ready to go, we just need enthusiastic ambassadors for the farm to tell people how great it is!

Please contact us ([email protected]) if you are interested. There are lots of interesting events and festivals going on so it should be a lot of fun!
